D6 Dice Roller

Roll a standard six-sided die online — one d6 for board games, or a whole handful with modifiers for D&D damage and ability scores.

d6 die

About the D6

The six-sided die is the most familiar die in the world. It drives virtually every classic board game — Monopoly, Yahtzee, Catan, backgammon — and it is just as central to tabletop RPGs, where fistfuls of d6s resolve everything from fireballs to sneak attacks.

Every face of a fair d6 has an equal 1-in-6 chance (16.67%), and the average roll is 3.5. When you roll several d6s together, the totals cluster toward the middle: big handfuls of dice are far more predictable than a single die.

What Uses a D6?

  • Board games: Monopoly and Catan use 2d6 for movement and production; Yahtzee uses 5d6.
  • D&D weapon damage: Shortswords, shortbows, and maces deal 1d6; a greatsword deals 2d6.
  • Fireball: The iconic D&D spell deals 8d6 fire damage (average 28).
  • Sneak Attack: Rogues stack extra d6s of damage — up to 10d6 at level 19.
  • Ability scores: The standard D&D method rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest die per score.
  • Hit dice: Wizards and sorcerers use a d6 hit die in D&D 5e.

D6 Probability

One d6 averages 3.5 with every face equally likely. Common multi-d6 rolls:

RollAverageRange
1d63.51–6
2d672–12
3d610.53–18
4d6144–24
8d6 (fireball)288–48

With multiple dice, middle totals dominate: on 2d6 a 7 is six times as likely as a 12, and on 8d6 nearly two-thirds of rolls land between 24 and 32.

D6 Roller FAQ

Is this like the Google dice roller?

Yes — searching "dice roller" on Google gives you a basic 1-6 die. This roller does the same thing but adds multiple dice, modifiers, roll history, and unbiased Web Crypto randomness, plus every other die type used in tabletop games.

What is the average roll of a d6?

The average of a single d6 is 3.5 — each face 1 through 6 is equally likely, and (1+2+3+4+5+6) ÷ 6 = 3.5. Rolling multiple d6s multiplies that: 2d6 averages 7, and 8d6 averages 28.

How many d6 does a fireball use in D&D?

A fireball cast at 3rd level deals 8d6 fire damage, averaging 28. Each spell slot level above 3rd adds another 1d6.

Are these rolls fair?

Yes. Rolls use the browser’s Web Crypto API with rejection sampling, so every face has an exactly equal chance — the same quality of randomness used in cryptography.
